Lauryn Hill and her son, YG Marley, delivered a standout performance at the 2024 BET Awards held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Hill, dressed in a striking black ensemble with a yellow cape and sunglasses, kicked off the evening with a soulful rendition of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” the title track from her iconic 1998 album.

The audience joined in enthusiastically as Hill segued into her classic hit “Lost Ones“, blending R&B with reggae influences. Adding a spontaneous touch, she delivered a heartfelt verse on activism and equality, echoing her recent appearance on The Tonight Show.

YG Marley, grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, took the stage next, performing his single “Survival,” co-written by Hill and featuring elements of his grandfather’s 1979 track “Ambush in the Night.” The performance smoothly transitioned into “Praise Jah in the Moonlight,” showcasing YG Marley’s evolving musical prowess.

Closing the ceremony with a bang, Hill reunited with Fugees bandmate Wyclef Jean for a spirited rendition of their 1995 hit “Fu-Gee-La.”

This dynamic mother-son duo previously wowed audiences on The Tonight Show with a soul-stirring rendition of “Ex-Factor,” highlighting their musical synergy.

Looking ahead, Hill and YG Marley are set to continue their collaboration on Hill’s Miseducation Anniversary tour, initially postponed due to vocal challenges. The tour promises a reunion with Fugees members Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, with YG Marley joining as a special guest.

Celebrating the enduring impact of her debut album, Hill recently marked its 25th anniversary with recognition from Apple Music, which named it the top album on its inaugural list of the 100 best albums of all time. Hill expressed gratitude for the accolade, emphasizing the collective effort and love that shaped the seminal work.

As fans anticipate more from Hill and YG Marley, their powerful performance at the BET Awards reaffirms their influence in music and hints at more exciting collaborations to come.
