Davido Reveals Release of New Album “5ive”
Afrobeats sensation Davido is ushering in a new chapter by announcing his highly anticipated fifth studio album, 5ive, for release in 2025.
Davido revealed it via Instagram on Thursday (Dec. 5). The Nigerian-American artist described 5ive as his most personal project. “This one is straight from the heart – my story, my truth, my growth,” he wrote to his 28 million followers.
As the album rollout begins, fans won’t have to wait long for what’s to come. The first single, titled “Funds” featuring Nigerian rappers Odumodublvck and Chike, will drop off tonight at 6 p.m. EST. “This one’s for the dreamers, the go-getters, and everyone chasing what’s theirs,” Davido shared, adding, “Let’s make history again!”
Produced with a dynamic blend of street sounds and rich cultural homage, “Funds” samples Brenda Fassie’s iconic 1997 hit “Vuli Ndlela,” a South African anthem of liberation and celebration. The track made its live debut during Davido’s birthday concert at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, where he surprised fans by bringing out Odumodublvck for an explosive joint performance.
“‘Funds’ is a celebration of the hustle and the journey,” Davido said to Rolling Stone. “Working with Odumodublvck and Chike on this track was magic. They brought their own unique energy, and together, we created something special.”
Being one of the leading figures in the global Afrobeats movement, Davido has consistently blended unique rhythms with powerful storytelling. I also collaborate with a wide range of international artists, from Chris Brown to Nicki Minaj. His last album, Timeless (2023), received critical recognition and multiple award nominations, further solidifying his position on the world stage.
