Doja Cat will be the first headliner for South Africa’s Hey Neighbour Festival this summer. The performance will mark the Grammy-winning artist’s first-ever appearance in her ancestral homeland.

Set to take place over three days—August 29 to 31—at the scenic Hey Neighbour is quickly establishing itself as a premier destination on the global festival scene. Following a star-studded list in 2023 that featured Kendrick Lamar, The Chainsmokers, Swedish House Mafia, etc, expectations are high.

“We are beyond excited to welcome Doja Cat to the Hey Neighbour Festival stage,” said Glen Netshipise, CEO of Hey Neighbour.“Her energy, creativity, and ability to connect with audiences on a global scale make her the perfect artist to kick off what will be an epic festival lineup. Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has long acknowledged her South African roots. She is the daughter of South African actor Dumisani Dlamini. Though she has yet to visit the country.

Also, in a 2023 interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Doja reflected on her absence from South Africa. “I rely on my career to just throw me out to places,” she said, hoping that her professional path might one day take her there. That time has come.

Last year, during her headlining set at Coachella, she also reflected on her heritage by inviting South African a cappella group The Joy on stage. This gesture showed her embracing her cultural identity.

Hey, Neighbour 2025 promises a festival and a symbolic homecoming for one of pop’s most enigmatic and innovative voices. With more names soon to be announced, the stage is set for a vibrant blend of global talent and local pride.
