“Baby Boy” By Sean Paul And Beyoncé Is Certified Platinum In The UK

After nearly two decades since its release, Sean Paul and Beyoncé’s hit collaboration “Baby Boy” has achieved platinum certification in the United Kingdom.

The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced that “Baby Boy” had received the Brit Certified Platinum Award, signifying sales of over 600,000 units in the UK, as tracked by The Official Charts Company.

Originally released on August 3, 2003, as the second single from Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning album “Dangerously in Love,” “Baby Boy” was later included on the re-release of Sean Paul’s Grammy-winning album “Dutty Rock” in September 2003. The song had already achieved platinum certification in the US last year.

The collaboration played a significant role in Beyoncé’s solo career following the disbandment of Destiny’s Child. It spent 29 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with nine of those weeks at No. 1. In the UK, it charted for 17 weeks and peaked at No. 2.

“Baby Boy,” produced by Scott Storch and Beyoncé, became the singer’s longest-running No. 1 single in the US until 2007 when “Irreplaceable” surpassed its record. For Sean Paul, it remains his longest-running No. 1 hit in the US, even surpassing his later collaboration “Cheap Thrills” with Sia, which topped the charts for four weeks.

Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love” album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and the UK Albums chart. It is currently certified 6X Platinum in the US, indicating sales of over 6 million units, and 4X Platinum in the UK, denoting sales of over 2.4 million units.

Meanwhile, Sean Paul’s “Dutty Rock” peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the UK Albums chart. It has achieved 3X Platinum certification in both the US and the UK, representing sales of 3 million and 1.8 million units, respectively.

The music video for “Baby Boy,” directed by Jake Nava, who also directed Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” video, features the two artists in separate scenes. The video has garnered 177 million views on YouTube to date.
