Inside Craigy T’s New Music Video “No Echo” and His Evolution in Dancehall
Craigy T, formerly of the legendary group T.O.K., was responsible for helping to craft the sound that won the hearts of the world. However, since embarking on a solo career, Craigy T has developed a personal style somewhat different from what he had in the group.
T.O.K. was a phenomenon that brought dancehall to the frontline of global music. Along with his group members, Craigy T produced hits like “Footprints” and “Galang Gal,” which were anthems within the dancehall community. His part in the group was typically considered the “heartbeat” of their songs since he provided the rhythmic beat that powered their sound. As successful as the group was, Craigy T ultimately chose to pursue a solo career, which allowed him to do more of his artistry and be more expressive.
As a solo act, Craigy T has worked on several projects that showcase his maturity. His debut EP, Unload, blends dancehall with reggae and soca. The single, “No Echo,” recently received a vibrant music video that captures the carnival and dancehall essence Craigy T is renowned for. Filmed by Prime Concepts at Ideas Evolution Studios, the video comes complete with dancers Radha Ruiz and DHQ Aga, who add to the song’s energetic feel.
What sets Craigy T’s solo songs apart is the raw energy they contain. He believes that this element enables him to connect with his fans on a more personal level. Unlike the diverse nature of T.O.K.’s styles, his solo projects have a more personal and open nature, with fans able to witness his creative side. Fans have responded well, enjoying the authenticity of his solo songs.
Craigy T has also expressed a keen interest in collaborating with international artists, especially from the Caribbean. He has mentioned wanting to work with Trinidadian artist Bunji Garlin, and this would create exciting blends of dancehall and soca. This would not only broaden his musical scope but also boost the global popularity of dancehall and reggae fusion music.
