Lauryn Hill & Doechii: Details About Their Surprise Performance
Lauryn Hill performed one of her highlight hits of the evening at the Jazz in the Gardens Festival in Miami, as she welcomed up-and-coming sensation Doechii onto her stage to perform her classic 1998 hit, “Doo Wop (That Thing).” The performance occurred while Hill performed during his headlining act at Hard Rock Stadium.
Before they sang Doechii, Hill addressed the audience, saying, “I want to introduce y’all to another sister,” as they both prepared to be treated to a high-energy, tear-inducing duet. The chemistry between the two was charged as their fans labeled the moment on social media “historic” and “a dream collaboration.”
Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill. Thank you. My heart is so full. She is my hero. This is the greatest honor hip hop could give me. Praise God 🤎 … my entire body is vibrating with joy right now. I’ll never forget this day! EVER! https://t.co/xOWpSpTyCo

Doechii subsequently posted her thanks and gratitude on social media, writing, “Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill. My heart is so full. This is the highest honor hip-hop could give me. Praise God… I’ll never forget this day! EVER!” She also admitted she was nervous but called Hill a “queen” and her “hero.” The performance was historic for Doechii, who recently won a Grammy for Best Rap Album for her work Alligator Bites Never Heal, the third female artist to win in this category after Cardi B and Lauryn Hill herself.
Fans loved the unexpected collaboration, with many praising how seamlessly Doechii fit into Hill’s timeless style. Social media was filled with posts such as, “Seeing Lauryn and Doechii perform together is a dream come true!” and “This is what music is all about—legends and new stars colliding.” Not only did the performance pay tribute to Hill’s legacy, but it also highlighted Doechii’s emergence as one of hip-hop’s most promising new stars.
