Rema Drops New Single Ahead of Coachella Debute
As anticipation builds for Coachella’s opening weekend, Nigerian star Rema sets the tone with the release of his latest Afro-R&B single, “Bout U,” unveiled Thursday (April 10). The track, co-produced by Rema and acclaimed British producer London, arrives just in time to electrify fans ahead of his festival debut.
A blend of hypnotic, sultry melodies and electric guitar, “Bout U” finds the 24-year-old artist in deep hesitation. “4:30 in the morning, thinking about you / And about your archy, body-ody-ody-ody,” Rema sings with a nod to Megan Thee Stallion’s 2020 smash “Body,” effortlessly weaving Western pop references into his Afrocentric sonic world. The track is both sensual and emotionally earnest. Since Rema paints a picture of love, he’s determined to protect her at all costs.
“Bout U” marks his second single of 2025, following February’s “Baby (Is It a Crime),” which cleverly mirrored Sade. In the meantime, Rema earned chart success, peaking at No. 3 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. Also, No. 4 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.
This latest release lands just days before Rema’s much-anticipated Coachella debut. He’s scheduled to perform on Sunday, April 13, at the Mojave Tent. This performance will be a part of his global Heis World Tour, which kicks off April 11 at the Edmonton Expo Centre in Canada. The 23-date tour will see Rema play some of the world’s most prestigious venues—including London’s O2 Arena and Paris’ Accor Arena—before concluding on August 3 at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona.
The tour supports his critically acclaimed sophomore album Heis, which debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and secured Rema his first-ever Grammy nomination for Best Global Music Album. The project further cements his role as one of Afrobeats’ forward-going, experimental artists with pop sensibility and cross-cultural appeal
Rema, born Divine Ikubor, continues to ride a wave of international recognition. He is one of the top nominees at this year’s Headies Awards, set to take place April 27 at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. His eight nominations include Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (“Ozeba”), Album of the Year (Heis), and Best Performer for his Ravage Uprising: Rema Live From The O2, London concert. He’s also up for Headies’ Viewers’ Choice, Digital Artist of the Year, and Afrobeats Album of the Year.
With “Bout U,” Rema reaffirms his prowess not only as a hitmaker but as a genre-defying force reshaping the sound and reach of modern Afrobeats.
