Tems Received A Diamond Award From Billboard
During Billboard’s Global Power Players gala in London, Tems was honored with the prestigious Diamond Award. Thus, she garnered further proof of her status as a global force in music.
The Grammy-winning artist stood alongside iconic names like Sir Elton John and EMPIRE founder Ghazi Shami. Breaking into the industry for their prestige, the do-or-die event was, therefore, a celebration of the visionaries creating tomorrow’s music. Tems has truly become one of the most significant new voices. In her acceptance, she thanked Billboard with gratitude for bringing African music to the forefront of the world stage.
“Being African and a musician is a new world,” she shared. “I feel like Billboard has been so supportive of not just African music but the whole scene and the culture.”
Tems noted that the genre’s explosive global growth wouldn’t be possible without platforms like Billboard backing the movement.
“This has been a really great honor,” she added. “African music is moving to heights that have never been seen before, and Billboard is one of the key players in moving that needle forward.”
Tems’ recognition at the event highlights her achievements. Also, it underscores the broader momentum of Afrobeats and African artistry in global pop culture. Other major honorees at the ceremony included Sir Elton John, who received the Creators’ Champion Award. Also, Ghazi Shami got the Clive Davis Visionary Award, presented by Nigerian superstar Olamide.
The evening also marked a significant milestone for Billboard, as the music giant unveiled its very first UK Power Players chart: a list highlighting movers and shakers in the European and world music scene.
With the conferment of the Diamond Award, Tems’ rising trajectory continues, one that transcends borders, etching its definition on what being an African artist in the global music scene actually means.
