Tyla to Perform at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards
Tyla, the breakout artist behind the global hit “Water,” will take the stage at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). The show, hosted by comedian Michelle Buteau, is set to air on Thursday, December 12, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, with streaming options available on Paramount+ and Fire TV Channels. Performances will also be featured on Billboard.com and the BBMAs’ social media platforms, providing fans worldwide multiple ways to engage with the event.
Tyla joins a growing lineup of performers, including K-pop sensation SEVENTEEN and soulful singer-songwriter Teddy Swims, who were the first artists announced earlier this week. The South African artist’s inclusion further cements her position as one of the most exciting new voices in global music.
Her rise to prominence has been meteoric. “Water” peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2024, and the track earned Tyla the inaugural Grammy for Best African Music Performance the following month. Her debut album, Tyla, reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200 in April, marking a significant achievement for the young artist.
Tyla’s presence at the BBMAs is especially notable as she is a finalist in eight categories, including Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Female Artist, and Top Afrobeats Artist. Her album Tyla is also up for Top R&B Album, while three of her songs—“Truth or Dare,” “Water,” and “Jump,” the latter a collaboration with Gunna and Skillibeng—are finalists for Top R&B Song and Top Afrobeats Song.
This year’s BBMAs marks the show’s return to FOX, which broadcasted the event from its inception in 1990 through 2006. Viewers will have access to on-demand streaming via Paramount+ and the Fire TV Channels app, ensuring fans don’t miss any of the action.
The awards ceremony will showcase not only the year’s top artists and songs but also exclusive performances and artist interviews. Special performances will be broadcast from unique locations, including a set by Shaboozey at W Hollywood, part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.
Produced by Dick Clark Productions, a subsidiary of Penske Media Corporation, the BBMAs celebrate achievements across genres, determined by Billboard’s year-end performance metrics. This year’s eligibility period runs from October 28, 2023, to October 19, 2024, aligning with Billboard’s year-end chart tracking.
With Tyla’s dynamic artistry on display and a slate of other performers yet to be announced, the 2024 BBMAs promise an unforgettable celebration of music.
