Vybz Kartel Will Set a New Milestone With Accra Stadium
Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel is making moves. This time, straight to the heart of West Africa. The Jamaican icon, born Adidja Palmer and revered globally as Worl’ Boss, is reportedly setting his sights on Accra, Ghana. Thus, this could be one of the continent’s most significant live music moments in years.
According to Ghanaian sports journalist Gary Al-Smith, Vybz Kartel has already made big moves. He is set to book the Accra Sports Stadium. It is a 40,000-capacity venue that has previously hosted local giants like Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy. While the show has yet to be confirmed, early chatter suggests Kartel is aiming for a December date. Thus, it signals his first major performance on African soil.
Vybz Kartel and His First Major Concert
Hence, the timing couldn’t be more symbolic. Just months ago, Kartel was released from prison. He has served 13 years, following the Jamaican Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn his murder conviction without ordering a retrial. His return to the stage has been nothing short of historic. Thus, his post-prison comeback show at Jamaica’s National Stadium drew tens of thousands. Additionally, it was hailed as a global dancehall revival. Now, it seems Africa is next.

Kartel’s growing bond with Ghana isn’t new. His collaborative relationship with the country’s dancehall titan, Shatta Wale, has only intensified in recent years. The Ghanaian star was scheduled to appear at Kartel’s homecoming concert in Jamaica last December. It was a gesture of mutual respect that culminated in Kartel naming Wale the “King of African Dancehall” during the show. Wale’s will feature fan favorites, and his Beyoncé collab “Already” was a highlight of the night.
If the Accra concert goes ahead, it will not only mark a major chapter in Kartel’s long and turbulent journey. Yet, it could redefine the dancehall map entirely. From Kingston to Accra, Worl’ Boss is plotting a cultural moment with the potential to echo far beyond the stadium walls.
