Rebel Solute 2024: A Night of Reggae Legends
The legendary Rebel Solute, an iconic reggae music festival that has been enchanting audiences since its inception in 1994, marked the beginning of its two-night celebration on Friday night. As the event commemorates its 30th anniversary this year under the theme ’30 for 30,’ it promises a showcase of musical prowess with 30 renowned artists set to grace the stage at Grizzlys Plantation Cove in Priory, St. Ann.
Night one unfolded with a stellar lineup featuring music veterans like Anthony B, Sanchez, Mikey Spice, Benjy Myaz, Leroy Gibbons, Richie Stephens, and the festival’s founder, Tony Rebel. The stage was also graced by newcomers like Savana, adding a fresh touch to the seasoned event.
Dressed in silk-embellished black pants and a striking blue velvet jacket, Sanchez took the stage, treating the audience to a musical journey through his hit catalog. Songs like “I’m Never Gonna Fall In Love,” “One in a Million,” “Call You on the Phone,” and his cherished rendition of Shai’s “If I Ever Fall in Love” resonated with the crowd.
Tony Rebel, the visionary behind Rebel Solute, rocked the stage in blue attire and delivered a captivating performance, featuring hits like “Fire” and the anthem of Jamaican pride, “Sweet Jamaica.” Adding a touch of family humor, Tony Rebel welcomed one of his sons to the stage, playfully referring to it as a “hostile takeover.”
The night continued with soul-stirring performances from Richie Stephens, Leroy Gibbons, and other seasoned artists. Closing the inaugural night of the event with an electrifying set was reggae sensation Anthony B, leaving the audience with the rhythmic echoes of his dynamic performance.
As Rebel Solute 2024 unfolds, it promises not only a celebration of its rich history but also a testament to the enduring legacy of reggae music, showcased through the remarkable talents that graced the stage on night one.
